Big day with eating

Today Megan ate mashed potatoes, carrots and apples off of mine and Will's plates at lunch. So she ate chunks!

When we got home Will had a smart idea - where has my head been? We haven't been able to put the tray on her high chair because it is shoulder height for her. So trying to get her to eat cheerios out of my hand has been the only option. He thought about using another chair option and it occurred to me that we have booster seats that strap to the chair. We tried it and it worked perfectly. She was able to maneuver her teething biscuit and pick it up and bite on it and then she picked up a cheerio with the other hand but Will got excited and it startled her so she dropped it.

Tomorrow will be fun- lots of options now that we have a setup with a tray in front of her.

Waving Hi

We have been teaching Megan to wave hi. It is so cute - she usually waves at herself - imitating what she is seeing. She puts her hand up and moves it a little bit - she doesn't have the full finger wave down yet.

Today she was sitting on my lap at the dr office and I said wave hi to the nurse and I showed her and because she was facing the same direction as me she put her arm up and did a little wave.

So cute.

Curly Hair

Megan's hair is starting to curl. The sides are long enough that they have curl going - the back is still growing in from her bald spot (from rubbing her head when she is on her back).

The hair on top of her head, which hasn't laid down for the past 6 months has even started to "curl" to one side. It looks like a giant curling iron was used on it about 30 minutes after her bath.

Very cute.

Turning Over

Megan has been able to go from her back to her tummy and vice versa for sometime now. However, anytime I put her on her tummy during playtime she will not roll off her tummy - instead she fusses when she is tired of being on her tummy. I think maybe she thinks that because I put her on her tummy she has to stay there.

Well, that was until this morning. She finally decided to roll over by herself when she was done with tummy time. I praised her a lot to show her that it was okay to do again and again when she wanted to. We shall see if she remembers later today.

UPDATE: she turned over again during her lunch tummy time. Mommy is so proud.

Sippy Cup

Megan has been doing awesome with her sippy cup this past week. It takes her a few moments to remember to suck on it and once she gets started she "gulps" down the water - she loves it. She drinks and drinks and drinks.

She still won't hold the cup and drink at the same time - it is one or the other. If she holds the cup she will put her arm down by her side so I hold it to let her drink and then let her hold it for a minute or two.

What a difference a day makes

This morning Megan fed herself the teething biscuit while I made her cereal. Then I gave her a "spoon" - it has a handle for her to hold and instead of a spoon it has a stick with grooves to hold the food. I had to help her get the cereal on the spoon and start her arm moving toward her face but then she took over and ate several bites that way.

Teething Bisquits

We taught Megan to keep her hands by her side when we feed her with a spoon. Well, she is such an obedient little peanut that when we give her a piece of food, instead of putting it in her mouth, she holds it with her arm down by her side.

A friend suggested we try a teething biscuit to introduce the holding/eating concept so we tried one today. She would hold it and she would eat it (she really liked it) but only if I held her hand too. If I let go she would hold it and put her arm down and sit there with her mouth open. I would have to pick her arm up and hold it up to her mouth.

She ate a cheerio today too - I gave it to her after some time with the biscuit- she kept it in her mouth and then choked on it. :-(

So...still having texture issues with chunks and still not wanting to use her hands - but we are getting better.

Jumping

Megan has started jumping in almost every toy we put her in. Last night she started jumping in my lap - so very cute.

Megan the helper

Megan has been helping us with her diaper and clothing for some time. When you undo her diaper she lifts her legs in the air and lifts her hiney off of the table. Then when you are ready to put the new diaper on if you say lift up she will put her legs back in the air and lift up her hiney again. So cute.

She puts her legs in shorts/pants for you and makes a fist to put her arms through the arm holes. She is also helpful with taking her arms and legs out of clothing. She is so smart.

Apple sauce

Megan does not like apple sauce. I am so surprised that out of everything we have given her this is the item that she doesn't like. We will try again in a few days.

9 month checkup

Megan weighed 15lbs 8.4 ounces today and she was 26" long. Dr. Fennell continues to be pleased by how awesome she is doing.

It is amazing how much she changes in just a day. One day there will be something that she isn't even interested in and then the next day she does it all by herself. What a wonderful time in a baby's life.
