We officially have a 3rd tooth
I noticed this morning that the tooth on the top finally broke through - that explains the rough night we had 2 nights ago.
No more bottle
On Megan's birthday we dropped the bottle and changed to the sippy cup, except for the final bottle of the day. We continued to give her a bottle with milk in it just before bed - at first it was the only way she was getting any milk.
After implementing a snack time every day, and therefore pushing her dinner later into the evening she stopped drinking much from her bottle - maybe 3-5 swallows. So 4 days ago we stopped giving her the evening bottle. We offer her the sippy cup before we start our nighttime routine in case she is thirsty.
This morning I pulled all of the bottles from the kitchen to store for Sam - there is no going back now.
We have a big girl. :-)

Pajamas with ease
So, last night I tried the new approach and put Megan in her pajamas immediately after dinner - no issues whatsoever. So, maybe she has been over tired when we have been doing it.

Getting dressed for bed
For the last few days Megan has pitched a fit when we go to put her in her pajamas. We have had to correct her and let her know that it wasn't okay to pitch a fit.
Well, tonight was the mother of all fits. I was trying something a little different to see if we could avoid the fit - with her sitting up on the couch I put her legs in her outfit and then pulled the top part up behind her. As soon as I tried to put her arm in the sleeve she started her fit and before I could say anything she leaned forward and BIT my hand. Yes, that is what I said - she actually leaned forward and bit the hand I was using to put her arm through the sleeve. I couldn't believe it - I was in shock.
We have been trying to figure out what is causing the fits, if she is too tired by the time we are doing it, if she is hot and doesn't want the pajamas of if she simply doesn't want to go to bed and knows that once the pajamas are on she is going down. So tonight, after we got her dressed, we kept her up and continued to play with her for 10-15 minutes to try to undo the image in her head. Hopefully, if we keep this up, she will stop having an issue.

Limited engagement - crib only events
Megan continues to perform all kinds of "tricks" in her crib that she won't even come close to attempting otherwise.
Last night while she was trying to get comfortable and go to sleep she was wiggling around on her tummy. At one point she raised up on completely straight legs while on her elbows - so basically standing. We just happened to catch it on the monitor.
She regularly gets up on her hands and knees and rocks back and forth and also scoots around - but only in her crib.

Birthday Party
Megan's birthday party was a big success. I went to the park early and set everything up and daddy showed up with Megan for the party. She had several friends there and had a great time playing with them.
She did such a good job - people were all over her and she lasted 2.5 hours before she was done with it. She enjoyed her birthday cupcake - but didn't really eat much of it. I fed her lunch just before we did the cupcake so she was full. :-)
She had fun opening her gifts. Most people used gift bags and she loved pulling the paper out of the bags. She really liked the clothes she got and the books. Such a cutie.
We gave her the little people bus and airplane. When gifts were done some of the other kids asked if they could play with the bus and airplane. So I sat with Megan on the blanket and they all played with her toys beside us. It was very cute. Hopefully she will be as generous at future birthday parties.
She started to get fussy and people would not leave her alone so I helped pack everything up and we hit the road. As soon as she was buckled in and the cold air was blowing she started blowing kisses like crazy - her sign for being happy about something.
She did such an amazing job.

Adoreable
Megan is in her crib, playing until time to get up. She is "sneaking" up on the bumper and kisses it and quickly turning away; and then she claps for herself.

Big food day for Megan
Megan and I were running an errand to the library. On the way there Megan got fussy and stared crying off/on. I said to her "mommy will give you a snack when we get to the library". She instantly stopped fussing and played for the remaining 10 minute ride.
Megan has never eaten a snack before - she doesn't quite have the concept of eating/drinking when it is not meal time.
When we got to the library I got in the backseat with her and offered her the sippy cup. She shook her head no and made the sign for food/eat. So I gave her some cereal which she chowed down on. After a few pieces I offered her the cup again, same response -- no and food sign. How very smart of her.
When we got home I gave her snack time. She ate cereal and a teething biscuit - which she went after voraciously. She took the cereal from me but didn't eat it, just dropped it.
For dinner Megan took a piece of squash from me and managed to get part of it into her mouth (about half of it stayed in her hand). This is the first time she has held anything other than a piece of cereal; the first time she didn't just drop what she was holding; and the first time she fed herself anything. Yippee!

1 Year Checkup
Megan is 27" long and weighs 16lbs 9ounces. So she grew 1 inch and gained 1.1 pounds over the past 3 months. She has grown 12 inches and gained 12 pounds in 12 months - how very symmetrical of her.
She got another glowing report. Part of the good report was that she was ticked off at the Dr every time he tried to do something. He said that is perfectly normal behavior for a 12-15 month old and he was thrilled that she screamed at him.

1st Birthday
Today Megan is 1 year old. We are so excited.
She will no longer be taking a bottle of formula, instead, starting today she will get a sippy cup of milk with her meals. She will continue to get a bottle in the evening, with milk, for as long as she needs it.
This morning, instead of just Will getting her up we both went. When you are the one who gets her up in the morning she is so happy to get up that you get lots of kisses. Today we got to share in the happy kisses.
For breakfast we put Megan in her highchair and tried to get her to drink her milk while she was eating. This didn't go well - she didn't want to drink anything, she just wanted to eat everything. For lunch we will show her the sign for milk and give it to her before she goes into her highchair - like we did with the bottle - to see if this helps.
After breakfast we started opening gifts. She opened the gift from Will's parents first - 2 outfits and a card. Next she opened the card from David & Lisa.
Then we moved on to gifts from mommy & daddy. She opened the little people horse stable and played with it for a couple of minutes and then we moved on to opening the little people barn. Daddy was helping her up to this point so we switched so I could give her some too. I helped her open her Princess carriage and then a bunch of farm animals. It was time to take a break - she was done.
She did a good job helping with the paper - but of course she doesn't understand that there are toys there - she just pulled on the paper. We will be doing another round of gifts from mommy/daddy after lunch. Before her nap she was playing in my lap and I noticed a tooth on the top left of her mouth. I can't feel it but you can see it.
She just got up from her morning nap and is playing with the barn.
For lunch we tried to give her the sippy cup before she got in the highchair - she did eat a little bit more this way but still didn't get a whole lot of milk. We took the regulator out of the sippy cup so that the milk flowed freely and that helped a little bit. She ate and ate for lunch - peas, peaches and a container of fruit. After lunch she finished opening her presents for the day.
This time she got a princess castle, a dollhouse lots of accessories and a car -- all little people. She also got a giant ball toy (difficult to describe)which she loved. We sat her on the table so she could play with it and see it better. Daddy told her this was not something that she would do again. She clapped for this toy when the music would play.
For dinner she drank more milk - still without the regulator. So she did better with each meal. She still doesn't want to drink anything from the sippy cup when it is not meal time. We are trying to teach her to drink at other times, but it is a work in progress. She ate a lot of food for dinner as well. She had more peaches, peas, a bowl of cereal and a container of apples/cherries. There is more room in the tummy when she doesn't get 4-5 ounces of formula before she eats.
After dinner Megan had a webcam with her granny before laying down for a couple of hours.
She ate 6 oz of milk in her bottle tonight - that is more than she has eaten this time of day for several weeks. Some days she eats so much for dinner that she doesn't take this bottle at all. Maybe in a couple of days when she drinks more milk throughout the day she will not need as much now.
It has been a great day for Megan. She had an awesome birthday!

1 Year Photo Session & Clapping
Yesterday we took Megan to get her photos done for her birthday. She is a photogenic little one but she doesn't want to cooperate/smile for any of the pictures. We have to work very hard to get her to do anything for the camera - but that is the way it is at home too;if she sees the camera she stops laughing/smiling.
Yesterday evening we took some cabinets to a friends house. This friend has 4 kids - one of them is a 2-year old little girl. She loves Megan. We were about to leave when she said "Megan watch this". Will was holding Megan so he walked her over so she could watch. The little girl pushed a firetruck across the kitchen floor and so Will cheered for her and Megan clapped. How cute is that? She clapped for her little friend.
