Super Smart Little One

Megan rolled to get a toy that she had thrown onto the kitchen floor. She managed to position herself so that she was on her tummy, 1/2 on the carpet and 1/2 on the linoleum. She would alternate feeling of the floor with her right hand (linoleum) and then the floor with her left hand (carpet). She would bang on them and feel them - she was extremely intrigued by the differences in the floor textures. This process went on for a good 2-3 minutes.

She is getting up on her hands/knees more and more and pausing before she launches herself - so she is spending more time up in the air. Shouldn't be too long before she is up there long enough for her to start crawling.

When she plays she often kicks things out of the way, she also uses her feet to bring toys up to her hands. Today she grabbed onto the strap (it is suppose to tie onto something) for her mirror using her toes and picked it up to her hand. Whoa baby that is one smart little peanut.

Launching herself

Megan started getting up on her hands and knees outside of her crib today, meaning in the living room. She would get up and launch herself forward to reach her toy. She did it several times today - it was adoreable. Now to teach her that she can just crawl forward and it would take less energy. :-)

Elbows & a cute new face

Megan has discovered her elbows. During a nap session today she layed there with her arm bent so that her elbow was by her head - she then tried to lick it several times and each time she would laugh and laugh. Will was on his way out the door when she started it and he stopped and listened to her laughing for a few minutes.

She would touch her elbow with her hand and feel of it and then try to lick it again. Eventually she put the other arm in the same position and went back and forth trying to lick them. Very cute.

Yesterday she started a new thing when she was eating and then continued to do it several times during the day. She makes this "yum" type noise (different than her actual yum when she is eating) and she squints her eyes. The first time she did it Will and I both cracked up laughing - of course that made her stop and just look at us. But seriously, it is adorable. We managed to get it on video and will post it soon.

Standing and Sitting

I have been working with Megan to get her to stand up. She will do it for a few seconds at a time now - I think until she realizes that she is doing it, or maybe until her legs get tired. Yesterday I stood her up at the couch so she could lean on it and have something fun to play with while she was standing. Will was surprised how much taller than the couch she is now.

I am also working with her to show her how to situp from her tummy. She tries to situp all the time but from her back, so she uses her stomach muscles and gets a good couple of inches off the ground but she can't make it all the way up. So yesterday I put her on her tummy and tried to show her how to sit up from there. She doesn't want to have anything to do with the pushing up part, but once I get her going she does the rest herself - like a pro.

and the winner is.....Sweet Potato

For lunch today I made Megan a sweet potato. I had made it early so that it would cool down for her. I put her in the highchair and gave her a bite of sweet potato while I got the rest of her lunch ready.

She ate 3 bites of sweet potato by the time I had everything else ready - namely the spaghetti o's. She took a couple of bites of spaghetti o's and then refused anymore - my girl wanted sweet potato. She ended up eating only about 5 bites of the spaghetti o's, but she ate just shy of 1/2 of the sweet potato.

Gotta love a kid who prefers her veggies.

A week's worth of updates

In my last update I said that Megan went to the church nursery for the first time. By Tuesday afternoon she had the sniffles - thank you very much church people who take their sick kids to church. We didn't take Megan yesterday BECAUSE she had the sniffles still. Come on people!

We have a few toys that we put in Megan's crib for her to play with when she wakes up from her naps. Recently I added a tamborine. She loves that thing and actually uses it correctly - because she loves to clap all her toys. It is very cute to watch regardless.

Attached to the end of the crib is a fish tank. When you kick/hit it lights/music/bubbles are activated. At night we flip it over the end of the crib so that if she wakes up early she doesn't start kicking it and playing loud music (we want to sleep afterall). Well one day this week she put one foot through each slat at the end of the crib and started kicking the back of the fish tank trying to get it to come on. Very smart little one. She likes to lift up the fish tank by putting her feet on it and lifting it up and letting it drop - it makes a very loud sound and she loves it. On Saturday she was going to town doing this to the fish tank and managed to lift it so high that she flipped it over backwards. Amazing.

This past week Megan starting eating a couple of new foods. She experienced Spaghetti O's - she treated them pretty much like any other new food. She ate them, got a "I am pondering this" look on her face, refused a second bite for about 30 seconds and then she was good to go and gobbled them up. We also introduced cereal/fruit bars as an alternate snack. That one didn't need any pondering at all - just ate it and asked for more.

Megan loves to play patty-cake with mommy. Yesterday for the first time she "cheated" and tried to go straight to her favorite part - "throw 'em in the pan". It was really cute - she loves that part and laughs and laughs when we sing the song.

Church Nursery

Yesterday Megan went into the church nursery for the first time. We visited a new church and put her in the nursery.

The lady was holding her when we got back and she said she did fine - no idea what that actually means. I had to get over the fact that once a week for 1.5 hours she might get held.

As suspected she missed her morning nap because of church - I guess this is something we will have to get used to.

Feeding herself & up on her knees

Yesterday Megan fed herself 3 pieces of cereal. She got very close with several other pieces throughout the day but eventually needed help with them.

Two days ago Megan starting getting up on her knees and hands in the living room - as opposed to just doing it in her crib. She doesn't stay up there long but at least she is expanding her locations now.
