Concentrating

This  morning Megan sat in the floor with her piggy and worked on putting coins into the slot.  She was concentrating so hard at it.  If it wasn't lining up correctly she would put the coin in her other hand and then grab it again in the correct position so she could get it in the slot.  She managed to put the coins in the slot many, many times and she loved it when we would cheer for her for doing it.

Of course, when I got the video camera out she stopped paying attention and didn't get another coin in and eventually went on to play with something else.  I REALLY need an invisible camera.

First skinned elbow

Megan was playing outside today riding on her lion.  She fell/got off of it onto the sidewalk.  It happened in slow motion, she reached down with her hands and then rolled a little and hit her head.  She cried, more from shock I think than pain but she calmed down in about a minute.

I didn't even realize her elbow was skinned until several minutes later and Will pointed out her wrist when he got home later.

Food and getting back on track

Megan has done well with getting into standing by herself again the last few days.  Tomorrow morning she will have her first therapy session in 3 weeks - it should be interesting; especially since she has started screaming/pitching fits the past 2 days.  They are easily stopped but not a fun addition to our day.

Megan had some oatmeal and some Halibut today - obviously not during the same meal.  She wasn't thrilled with the Halibut (neither were mom and dad) but she ate it.

Dinner...deconstructed salad

On the menu tonight for dinner was chef's salad.  I debated making something else for Megan's dinner since I am not giving her lettuce yet, but then decided that I want her to grow up eating salad so here is what she had for dinner:

Cucumbers
Yellow bell pepper
Carrots
Yellow squash
Boiled egg
Turkey meat
Butternut squash - this was left-over from last night
Green beans - also left-over from last night

Megan gobbled it all up.  She ate everything without hesitation.  Love, love, love my little veggie eater.

Road trip and vacation happenings

Megan did really well on the 2-day road trip; both directions.  For the first time she stood up on her own, without someone saying "come on, you can do it".  We were in the trailer and I opened the curtains so Sam could see out the window and she crawled over and stood right up to look out.  She sat down and did it again 2 more times.  :-)

The road was very bumpy in some places, kind of like a mini-roller coaster and Megan LOVED it.  She would giggle every time we went over a bump.  At one point we were sitting on the side of the highway and every time a truck would pass it would make our car rock and she would laugh and laugh.  I love to hear her laughing.

While on the trip she developed a "cheerios habit".  Oh dear is she addicted to them now.  She ate so many of them during the 4 days in the car - I couldn't believe it.  Normally she gets cheerios for her morning snack and something more substantial for her afternoon snack, but since we have been home she won't eat her afternoon snack she just asks for cheerios.  Ugh!

She did great visiting with family.  She was fine playing with everyone.  Our first  morning there Elaine's chihuahua jumped up into her lap and she just pushed her off into the floor.   She loved hanging with Uncle Mike and Will said she loved playing with Aaron at Granny's house.  While we were on the trip Megan started saying her "d's & b's" and she also continued with chatting a lot more when we were in the car.  Now she is talking like crazy to Will when they read books together and she is making all kinds of sounds.

Megan has been sharing food with Will for a couple of weeks.  She will try to feed him her fork, etc when he is feeding her.  On our trip home she did something even more adorable.  After feeding Megan her breakfast Will was eating a muffin and Megan, who always wants what we are eating, wanted some; but then she took the muffin and put it up to Will's mouth.  She even broke a piece off and fed it to him.  She did it again during lunch. Super cute!

She is so very happy to be back home.  On Monday she woke up early from her nap and looked around her room and then went right back to sleep.

Coloring

We have tried coloring with Megan a few times but she always just put the crayon in her mouth and she wasn't interested in coloring on the paper so we just dropped and would try again a couple of months later.  Today I was checking items off of my packing list for our trip and Megan came over to me wanting to play with the pen and paper.

I handed her the pen and she made a couple of marks on my list so I flipped to a clean sheet and she had so much fun.  I had to keep the pen upright for her since it only marks if it is up/down vs a crayon but she drew with both hands by herself.

I am so excited that she is ready for coloring. I didn't pack any coloring items for our trip but will work with her when we get back home.

What a day!

Megan started going from knees to standing again at her therapy session last week.  The therapist showed me a "trick" to help her without her knowing it because she doesn't always want help.  It was working and going well until about Thursday when every time she tried to stand up she fell over.  It seemed like she had stopped using her arms and was trying to stand up just using one leg.  Anyway at her therapy session yesterday Mandy moved her back down to the lower surface and she did much better.  She got up by herself multiple times - though she is back to trying to stand up without bringing her knees up.

Okay - so today she did great as soon as I started working with her.  She stood up by herself too many times to keep track of - and did it "correctly" or the easier way about half of the time.  I was so proud of her - she worked really hard this morning and then again after morning snack and before lunch and then again after nap.  She even stood up at 2 of her toys.  She is still having to be motivated - meaning she is not just going over and doing it by herself.  I have to put a toy on the ottoman and encourage her to come over - unless of course I find the magic toy of the moment - then she just crawls right over and stands up.  I am very much looking forward to the day, hopefully soon, when she will stand up somewhere without me having to entice her.

In addition to all of the standing Megan decided to become consistent with 2 of her toys showing her fine motor skills.  She repeatedly put a coin into the slot of her piggy bank toy (only the big yellow one - couldn't seem to get any others to work for her); and she repeatedly put the 1/2 circle shape into the correct slot of her shape sorter.

She also hugged Sam; he was laying on the floor playing beside where she was sitting and she put her arm around his waist and just left it there while they played.  In true big sister form she did scissor-kick him a few minutes later - she squished him in the middle.

She also seems to be trying to talk today, not just pointing and grunting but trying to form sounds.  Sometimes we can also hear a word from her - like "more" or "um" for Sam or "mom".  There was another one but I can't remember it at the moment - UGH!.

Such a big day for our little miss.

Horse-collared - as taught by Roy Williams

When Megan wants to play with Sam, she WANTS to play with Sam!  Sam wants to play too, most of the time, but sometimes he wants to go do something else; like this morning.  Anytime Sam tries to take off Megan grabs whatever she can get her hands on, his shirt, his pants, his feet, his arms, etc.

Well this morning, after almost pulling his pants off because he was really trying to get going she reached up and grabbed the hood of his hooded sweatshirt.  Thankfully he was crawling, and not sitting up - because she whipped him around and wouldn't let go.  Sam wasn't as bothered by this as I would have been.  He just smiled at her and wiggled away.

Nachos

In honor of the Super Bowl we decided to have nachos tonight.  Normally I would serve Megan the fixings without the chips but decided to try the chips tonight.  She ate one chip/nacho and then we went our regular route because it was taking her so long.

She is still trying to chew all difficult items with her front teeth.  I still have no idea how to teach her to chew with her molars - I understand why she isn't, she had to chew with her front teeth for more than a year while she waited on them to come in.  Anyway, trying to chew chips with your front teeth is difficult and tiring so she was ready for a change.

After eating her fixings and some green beans and peaches she asked Will for another chip, but when he offered it to her she took the toppings off and just ate the chip.  :-)
