Its been a good day

Megan had a great day standing and getting into standing at the table.  She wants to be up there and seems to be much more confident and comfortable.  She is cruising side to side and even standing up further away from the table and walking up to it while holding on.  I think she will do great working with Mandy again on Monday - it has been 3 weeks since she has seen Mandy because of her cold.

This evening after dinner Megan was SUPER sweet with Sam.  She just kept giving him kisses and snuggles and would lean on him.  She was just as sweet with daddy after Sam went to bed too.  Such a loving little miss.

I was playing chase with her a little later.  I would crawl a little ways and then turn around and she would come to get me.  She got so excited that she got in the crawl position and then hopped on both knees all the way to me.  It was so cute.

She is doing better with her puzzles, she knows where each piece goes and tries hard to get them in.  Will took the pieces away from the puzzle and she still knew right where they went.

Working hard makes me hungry

Megan has always eaten well.  Yesterday was the first day Megan ate full meals all day long since her illness dulled her appetite.

Well dinner tonight goes beyond eating well.  Megan ate and ate and ate.  She ate two-thirds of a cheeseburger, several green beans, half of a pear, and a few tater tots and cheerios.  I guess spending the afternoon working with mommy at the table makes for a very hungry Little Miss.

Supergirl shoes!!!

Megan got her custom orthotics today.  They are not currently inserts that go inside shoes, rather they have soles made onto the bottom of them so that they are shoes themselves.  They are open like an insert so you don't want to run around in the dirt in them, but they are designed so they can be worn outdoors too.

Will graciously took off of work today and we all went to the appointments.  He dropped Megan and me off at the front door to the hospital and hung out in the car with Sam.  He parked on the roof of the parking garage and rolled down the windows - he said it was peaceful up there kind of like fishing.

Anyway, her first appointment was with the physical therapist to have her fitting.  They put her orthotics on her and then had her stand in them.  They marked her feet and then trimmed them down to fit her feet.  With them back on her they had her stand again just to watch her in them.  We worked with her for several minutes and then it was time for us to go to see the orthopedist.

Will and Sam came back around and picked us up at the front door.  We all drove over to the other building and Megan and I went in.  The doctor checked out the fit and gave me some things to look out for and sent us on our way.

When we got home I worked with Megan at the table for a little bit, standing and getting into standing.  She really didn't feel well and wasn't up for much so I didn't push it.  However, she was feeling good after her nap so I went for it.  She did so great.  She stood, cruised and got into standing all by herself.   She wouldn't get from her knees onto her feet without me touching her.  In the beginning I had to actually tilt her to get her going but after a few times I just touched her and she would do it after I moved my hand.

I am so happy for her that her horse therapy, and possibly her new supergirl shoes are working so well.

Time with Daisy

Megan's therapy session with Daisy was yesterday.  She is still congested and not feeling 100% so her session was a little shorter than normal, but she still did great.  Yesterday afternoon I worked with Megan at the table for the first time since she started feeling poorly.  She did well yesterday and then again this morning.  She got into standing with perfect form this morning and at a good pace, instead of too fast.

Working with Daisy is really helping her, I really want her to feel better so that she can get the most from it.  She is getting her custom orthotics tomorrow which will also, hopefully help her stability.

After her ride the therapist had Megan stand in her lap and play with Daisy.  A volunteer was holding toys up and having Megan reach up to Daisy's back/mane to get them.  Megan would reach over and touch Daisy's face, bridle and ears.  Every once in a while Daisy would turn her head and put it right in Megan's face.  Megan would put her hand on Daisy's head and push her away.  The therapist and volunteers got a kick out of that - Megan wasn't afraid she just didn't want the horses face in hers so she took care of it.  That is our girl.

Music and more

Megan loves jazz music.  We listen to a children's music channel all the time and a few days ago they played a jazz version of "if you're happy and you know it" and not only did Megan love it, but daddy loved it too.  I ordered a CD of their greatest hits and am looking forward to its arrival.  We will have some fun dancing to it.

Last night I had a song stuck in my head so I played it online.  It is a Sinatra song and Megan enjoyed it, so when it finished I played several more.  She was so excited at one of the songs that she was jumping in circles and clapping and laughing.  So very cute that my little one likes my music.

Unfortunately Megan still has a runny nose, so she is getting her nose wiped a lot.  This morning she took a kleenex from the box, put it up to her nose and blew.  Oh my goodness, she did it twice and it was adorable.  She didn't wipe, but man she has the hard part down.  When she was finished she grabbed another kleenex, crawled over to Sam and wiped his nose.

Will & I both play cars with Megan by driving them on our legs or her legs, back etc.  She has sortof copied this in the past but this morning she really copied me.  Once I "parked" the car she picked it up and drove it all over herself, even places I didn't like her face.

Sweet sleep

Megan slept through the night for the first time in more than a week; which also means mommy and daddy slept through the night too.

Megan made it through the whole day without a fever.  She still snotty but we are definitely heading out of this sickness.

We made a trip to Sam's club today to look for the fruit that I feed the kids when I don't have fresh fruit for them because with Sam eating regular food they are now going through a can a day.  Whoa baby these little ones can eat.  Anyway, at Sam's the kids sat in a double cart so they were side-by-side.  They did great - with Megan only picking on Sam a little bit.

Turning the corner

Megan finally got some decent sleep today, taking a normal nap instead of a 30-40 minute one.  Her fever was gone when she got up from her nap, which is the first time in 4 days that she hasn't had one.  It did come back a few hours later, which is typical for her.  When her fever breaks she wants to play more and that generally brings it back.  I hope that she gets some good sleep tonight and wakes up less snotty and without a fever tomorrow.

Feeling bad can't hold her back

Megan has been feeling lousy.  She has been running a fever and basically just hanging out in my lap.  She went from taking 2-3 hour naps to not even getting an hour and she is waking up more than once an hour and crying at night; so needless to say she isn't getting much sleep either.

Today was her therapy session with Daisy (horse).  I asked her if she wanted to go and she said yes and clapped her hands so I figured we would give it a go.  They put her on Daisy and after the first step Megan had a big smile - something I haven't seen for a couple of days.  She did really well during the session - she did fuss a little bit and they had to work harder to keep her happy but she did it.

Runny nose :-(

Megan woke up with a runny nose this morning.  We visited friends on Saturday and their kids all had runny noses.  If I had known I wouldn't have taken the kids since Sam's birthday party is on Saturday and Megan just started horse therapy.

She had a rough day - she spent most of it laying in my lap.

She did have a good time with the kids on Saturday - she played with them and was okay with them being all over her.

She smells funny

This morning Will went to get Megan from the kitchen to bring her back into the living room.  When he picked her up he said "she smells funny"; and then as he continued walking toward me he flipped her over and went to smell her and I busted up laughing.  Megan was wearing a pair of cotton stretch shorts, so light-weight snug fitting shorts.  When Will flipped her over to smell her she had a tennis ball size lump in her shorts and he almost smelled before noticing it.  I am still laughing - really no need to smell because she didn't put a ball in her shorts.

Getting dressed

Megan has gotten very good at getting her tops on.  She will help get the shirt over her head and then she can do the rest by herself.  If the neck opening is really big sometimes she will put one arm through it instead of the arm hole but she knows that she did it and will work to fix it.

And we are back up and "running"

Well, the session on the horse did its job again today.  Yesterday I couldn't get Megan to stand up at all and this afternoon Megan was up playing at the table again.  She cruised back and forth (something she quit doing a few days ago), got up and down and even went from her knees to standing (with my "help") again.  I am not really helping her stand up I am just putting my hands on her hips and she thinks I am helping; usually by day 2 or 3 she will start standing up again without the additional support.

She even spent time up on her feet after she was in her pjs.  Yay!  Last time this lasted well past a week so hopefully there will be no turning back this time since she will be having another session every week.

Born to ride

Megan had her first 45-minute horse therapy session this morning.  She did so great.  The therapist was very surprised that Megan was so happy the entire time.  She played with the toys that they had for her and loved stopping at the mailbox to open and close it.

She said that Megan's sitting position was perfect that they usually have issues with young children wanting to sit too far back on their rearend.

She was having such a great time that she was unhappy that it was time to get off of the pony until they got out the brush and let Megan brush Daisy's mane.  She helped Margie (therapist) and then they gave her the brush and she did it by herself several times.

I forgot to mention that before the session could get started that the volunteer had to remove her ball cap.  Megan loves caps and just wants to take them off of people's heads and she wouldn't stay on the horse from trying to reach the lady's hat.

Talking on the phone

Megan looks so cute playing with her phone.  She will hold it up to her ear like she is talking on it.  I have been playing with her for some time now and she is now playing with it by herself all the time.

Stand up comedian

Megan had a very rough day today, she is still warm, tired and just not herself.  She had a very rough last night which didn't help matters either.

Anyway, because of this Megan spent some time in toys today.  I put her in the jump-jump and put Sam in the exersaucer and put him within reach of her so they could play together.   At one point Megan started laughing and laughing and laughing so I peeked around the corner to see what was going on.  Sam was facing her and he would babble something and then she would laugh and laugh about it.  And when she stopped laughing Sam would babble something else and she would crack up again.

I guess Sam is a very funny little guy.

Neighborly

Yesterday our neighbors invited us over to hang out.  Megan ate the food for her snack and just gobbled it up.  Later when we were playing in the floor the man was trying to get Megan to play with a bear but instead she went right up to him and gave him kisses.  He wasn't prepared for that.  She wanted to play with him like daddy which was a little rough for him.

She had fun playing with the lady as well and she went all over their living room and tried to get into their drawers just like at home.  I guess she felt at home which is a great thing.

Tooth action and egg rolls

Yesterday I checked Megan's molar area for activity and there is something happening on the bottom right.  It feels rough and definitely different from the other three areas.  She has been warm, clingy and tired the past few days so that makes sense.

Tonight for dinner Megan had the egg rolls from Chili's.  They had beans, chicken, corn, spinach, cheese and a spicy sauce.  She loved them and ate 1 & 1/2 of them - except for the very end pieces that were just dough.  Every time we thought she might have had enough she would ask for more.

Naked

This post is for you Megan, however old you may be when you read through it.

For sometime now Megan has been able to get most of her pants or shorts off if she wants to.  She usually gets stuck taking off her shirts because she takes her head out before her arms and then there isn't enough room to move much.  Well, since we went up in size her clothes are much roomier.  Today during nap Megan took off her shirt and then her pants.  I went up and put them back on her and of course she didn't like me leaving her in there.  A few minutes later she had her pants and shirt off again.  I decided to leave her alone unless she started working on the diaper because it was getting late and she hadn't napped yet.

It took her about 5 minutes to decided to try to get the diaper off and of course about 2 minutes to do it.  She was still sitting in the diaper when I got to her room, but it was completely undone.  I ended up putting a fresh diaper on her, along with a pair of her pjs because she hasn't figured out zippers yet.  After flipping out that I put her down AGAIN (how dare I) she did eventually fall asleep and she took a great nap - 2.5 hours.

Missing Sam

Megan didn't get to spend very much time with Sam yesterday because of her appointments.  This morning Will went into the office very early, before the kids got up, so I was on my own for breakfast.  Sam did me a favor and slept in this morning so I was able to feed Megan before I got him up.

I went to get Sam and when I came back down Megan was sitting at the bottom of the stairs waiting for us.  I put Sam in the floor and Megan crawled over to him.  She didn't leave his side, following him wherever he went.  When I picked him up to feed him his bottle she got up on her knees and stayed there right beside us.  When it was time to burp him she tried to help while standing up but couldn't quite manage it and started to cry so I slid down into the floor so she could help.  After his bottle I needed to feed him some cereal and she was unhappy that I put him in his highchair.  She played right beside it in the floor while I fed him.

After he finished eating and got back in the floor and she stayed glued to him.  It was so very sweet that she had missed him.  Even after playing with him for 1.5 hours she was unhappy that he had to go down for a nap.

More helping and cuteness

Megan has been helping me brush her hair.  She will grab my hand or the brush and brush the front of her hair.  She tries to help with the back but her arm isn't quite long enough yet.

She loves helping me with Sam too.  She will come over and help me burp him by patting on his back with me.  She gets very excited if he burps right after she starts helping.  Last night after his bath I wiped his nose and she came over to help me with that too.   She tries to help him with his bottle, but I keep telling her he's got that one covered.

Today we had a very long, almost 3 hour, doctor appointment to get custom made orthotics for her.  She did great.  While we were waiting to check-in a lady sat down in front of us with a bag of chips.  Megan looked at her and did the signs for "food" and "please".  Awesome.  I told Megan that it was a great job asking for food but that I would give her some cheerios after we checked in and that just because we see someone with food doesn't mean we get some of it.  The lady looked at me so I explained what had just happened and she offered to share with her.

At one point while we were waiting at the second office (had to take a bus from one location to the hospital for second location) a family came out of the back with a little girl in a stroller.  They stopped right beside us and Megan and the girl just stared at each other.  After a minute or two Megan waved to her.  Amazing!  Megan doesn't wave - hasn't for more than a year.  So, so sweet.  I told the girl that she was very special because Megan didn't wave to anybody.

Egg hunt

Our church had an egg hunt on Sunday.  We took the kids and were directed to the sanctuary to wait for the hunt to be ready.  We sat the kids in the floor and I sat down to hang with them.  I gave them their new metal Easter buckets and they played with them and then Megan decided she was ready to go exploring.   She took off across the back of the room, out the doorway and into the lobby with Will following her.  He said she made it across the lobby to the front door right as the pastor opened it.  He carried her back to where I was sitting and about 10 minutes later she was off again, crawling around kids to see what was what.

When it was time for the hunt Will carried Megan to a section where there were no other kids hunting yet.  He Sat her down on the ground in the middle of several eggs and gave her the bucket. He said 'put them in'.  He handed her an egg to get her going and she did great.  She had several in her bucket before she decided to start taking them out and throwing them back on the ground.  She had so much fun and would clap and laugh when Will cheered for her.
