I have stopped using the picture cards so that I can get this behavior back under control this week. Yesterday Megan ate just shy of 1/2 of her lunch, again because she wouldn't stop throwing her food. Then with her afternoon snack she ate one bite and then threw everything on the floor. I gave her a couple extra chances because she didn't nap but it didn't help. I decided to leave her in her chair and wash some dishes while Sam finished his snack. For the next 2-3 minutes she was whining and fussing and asking for more food by pointing to the crackers. I talked to her and kept telling her that if she would change her attitude and stop whining I would give her another chance to eat her snack (I knew she was super hungry).
When she finally settled down I said "if you want some more snack you need to say 'momma, more food please''. She immediately said momma and then signed more food please. I said great job and here I come. She did great, ate a substantial amount before she decided to throw something again.
This is the first sentence Megan has ever used and she combined verbalized word with signs.
