New developments

Something that we have figured out about Megan is that when she is teething, really teething, she can't seem to accomplish or learn new things. She will work on them for several days, even weeks sometimes, and not make any progress; but the day after her tooth breaks through she can do whatever it is she has been struggling to accomplish.

I think that some kids development is like they are climbing a set of stairs - they take a step up, relatively easily, and learn a new skill. They learn a little at a time and just keep climbing one step at a time; at least this is what I have observed in the kids I have been around. Megan, on the other hand, seems to have very large platforms, instead of steps. They are tall so she has to work to climb up on them and then once she is there she learns several things at one time. She stays on these platforms for quite some time and then starts working on climbing up onto the next one.

So, Megan cut a couple of teeth on Monday and a couple of more on Thursday. Friday was "show-off" day. I blogged previously about her bath time - well that was just the beginning. Megan hasn't been able to get herself into a sitting position - she would try to do a sit-up to get there which didn't work. Well, since Friday she has been getting herself 90-95% of the way with me helping her for the last little bit.

She is also putting her hands down to support herself so she can reach for toys off to the side. Prior to Friday she had just started "yelling" in protest when she couldn't reach it. This was a good sign because before last week if she couldn't reach something she would just play with what she could, even if that was just her own foot. In addition to the "yelling" she is now being more vocal all the time. Before she would really only talk when she wasn't being spoken to, or when she was playing by herself. For the past 3 days it has been not stop chatter.

So to recap, since Friday she is now moving a lot more, has way better control, can almost sit up and is talking non-stop. I think she made it up onto her next platform.
