All by herself

What you are about to read was accomplished without any assistance from mommy.

A few minutes ago Megan was laying in my lap and made her way into the floor (something that is new too, but not the purpose of this post). She was laying face-down across my Indian-style legs with her legs stretched out in the floor. She pulled her legs up underneath her and then pushed off of my legs so that she was "sitting" up on her knees. She then moved her legs around and pushed herself into a sitting position. Yippee! I cheered and clapped for her, which of course she loved.

In order to reinforce this new skill, and to ensure it wasn't a fluke, after a couple of minutes of letting her play I picked her up and then put her back into the position she had been in. After a few seconds she was sitting again. Such a big girl!

I have been working with Megan from laying in the floor, showing her that she can push with her arms and sit up once she is on her knees; but I have to help her get into position and then I was helping her a little bit with the transition. I won't be doing that now. I think she is able to do it by herself. I am going to work with her after her nap and see how it goes.
